General Information
Palmdale has been continuously ranked as one of the top 25
fastest growing cities in the United States. It is the the seventh largest city
in Los Angeles County and the largest and principal city of the Antelope Valley.
It is also the fourth largest city in the Mojave Desert by population.
The city has a high quality life-style and is known as a
family-oriented community. A new multimodal transportation center offers local
bus and train services. Downtown revitalization includes hundreds of new senior
housing units, a new senior center and expanded open space. A first-class
medical campus called Palmdale Regional Medical Center is under construction and
expected to open in 2009. It will include the region's largest emergency
department, a helipad, medical office towers and a senior housing complex.
Demographic Information
Palmdale is the first community in the Antelope Valley to
incorporate as a city on August 24, 1962. It is located in the north-east
reaches of Los Angeles County, California, United States. It is separated from
Los Angeles by the San Gabriel Mountain range. As per the 2000 U. S. census, the
city had a total population of 116,670. According to 2008 estimation by
California State Department of Finance, the city has a total population of
147,897. The city is located at Latitude: 34.58 N, Longitude: 118.10 W with
elevation of 2659 feet above the sea level.
